The Governor General just handed out the 2011 Medals for the Order of Canada. I like how people from all walks of life are recognised for essentially making Canada a better place. However, I wish that the GOC published the actual citations for the medals because not everyone is famous enough to have their own website. I will write to His Excellency and suggest this. Here’s what I have gleaned from the media regarding some of the medically related recipients.
Dr. Gordon Guyatt. A Canadian physician who gave the world the term “Evidence-based medicine”
Ana Paula Lopes. A philanthropist who has contributed much to the betterment of people who suffer from mental health [who are unfortunately often second class citizens of health care].
Dr Alvin Zipursky Pediatric hematologist and researcher.
Dr Jean Deslauriers – thoracic surgeon and medical author.
Mary Ferguson-Pare – for contributions to the nursing profession.
Margaret Spoelstra – for contributions to helping children with autism.
Biomedical engineer James McEwen
Dr Calvin Ralph Stiller [Promoted within the Order]
If there’s anyone that I have missed … you know it! Lemme know!
